Hello out there in cyber space. My name is Jim Johnston. I am a 30 year old college student and I am about to start a life makeover. Currently I weigh approximately 315 Lbs and if I had to guess I’d say that I gained the last 25 in just the last 4 months. You see I’ve always loved food and it’s always been both medication in thumbs times and reward in good times. Which is a potent mix as far as weight management goes. I spent much of the fall contemplating my life, my weight, my goals, and what I thought of the man I saw when I looked into the mirror.
It was the realization that I had become very unhappy with how I was living my life and that I was not at that time being affected by the people around me that were telling me I needed change. I still had to go a bit lower into my own self pity and receive some type of wakeup call before I would decide that it was time to make some changes. There were several small things that happened during the late fall and winter weeks that caused me to begin to change my thinking, but I received a big wakeup call when I met Dr. Johnson a chiropractor in central Illinois.
As part of a screening Dr. Johnson took several x-rays of my neck and spine. What he showed me on the finished prints shocked me to a point that my only reaction was to laugh at the doc. My skull was all but resting on the top vertebra of my spine, my neck generally went forward and had the opposite bend than it was intended to have and several vertebrae were locked in place from years of abuse. Originally, I had gone to see Dr. Johnson for a lower back injury that had accrued during fall marching band. But, what I learned about my health or lack thereof was much worse than the original lower back issues. I can only be thankful that a wakeup call came before a major incident.
Also around the time that I started to receive chiropractic care I got back into contact with an old friend who had started a new business since I had talked to him last. That man of course is Health and Wealth Makeover founder Adam Underhill. I cannot say enough about what a positive impact Adam has had on my life over the years and I find that his body transformation thus far is nothing short of amazing. After some long conversations with Adam he offered to help me in any way he could when I was ready to transform my life. Adam has passion for all things he does in his life and he has inspired me to make some changes.
During the fall months I realized that I would need to relearn everything that I knew or thought I knew about nutrition and a healthy diet. Up until this week I had not really done anything about it other than a random conversation here and there. But this week as part of my spring semester classes I stared a class on weight management and I will be attending a weight loss, fitness, and quality of life seminar this weekend hosted by Maximized Living. I hope that I will learn enough by the end of this weekend to start making changes in my diet at that time. I have already given up my beloved Mountain Dew and now just have to figure out the rest.
I don’t have a target weight at this time as I feel it will be best to set smaller weight loss goals and reassess what I need to do based on how I feel. My first goal is to get down to 260 and take it from there.   That will be the biggest chunk of weight to lose as well and I’m rather sure that subsequent goals will be for much less weight.
I want to thank those out there who read these words and I want to encourage you to check back here for my latest blogs over the coming weeks and months. Because what I will provide for you is a completely honest and open discourse on my new journey. A journey to a happier, healthier, more fit and more content me than ever before.
